ILLINOIS WEST SEMIFINALS: LW JV1 TAKES GAME 2 WITH 3-1 WIN OVER MAINE
In a thrilling win-or-go-home matchup, #1LW JV1 emerged victorious over #5 Maine in the second game of their Illinois West semifinal series, securing a 3-1 win and advancing to the final game of the series.
Despite falling behind after Maine's goal at 11:04 mark of the second period, LW's Grant Briscoe (assisted by Carter Prochaska) and Andrew Maertin (unassisted) helped the team take a 2-1 lead before the end of the period. LW's momentum was momentarily disrupted when Maine was awarded a penalty shot due to a LW penalty, but Jacob Andersen made a crucial stop to maintain the 2-1 lead heading into the third period.
Gran Briscoe capped off the victory for LW in the final seconds of the game with an empty-netter, sealing the win with just 22 seconds remaining on the clock. Anderson made 14 saves out of 15 to secure the victory for LW.
The two teams will face off once again tomorrow night at HF Ice Arena at 7:15PM, with the stakes higher than ever – a trip to the Illinois West Finals hangs in the balance. Will LW be able to secure the series win, or will Maine mount a comeback? The answer will have to wait until tomorrow night.
