Lincoln-Way JV1 Heads to Championship After Shutout Victory
The #1-ranked Lincoln-Way JV1 hockey team secured their spot in the Illinois West Championship tonight, defeating the #5 Maine JV1 squad with a hard-fought 1-0 victory. The win clinches the series for Lincoln-Way and sets up a showdown with the #2 Warriors Hockey Club.
The game's only goal came early in the second period, with Joey Smuskiewicz finding the back of the net at the 3:56 mark. Grant Briscoe and Jason Sciacca were credited with the assists.
The series was marked by exceptional goaltending from both teams. However, Lincoln-Way's Jacob Andersen stood tall in the decisive game, delivering a shutout performance when his team needed it most.
Lincoln-Way will now face the #2 Warriors Hockey Club in the championship series. The Warriors advanced after sweeping Oak Park/River Forest in their best-of-three series, winning two games to none.
