LW JV Red Opens Kings Kup with a Mixed Day of Results

LW JV Red had an eventful start to their Kings Kup tournament, achieving a 3-1 victory over Lake Forest in the morning but falling short to New Trier later in the day.
In their opening game against Lake Forest, LW Red displayed a strong start despite a scoreless first period. The breakthrough came at 19:37 of the second period when Maverick Enright scored, with assists from Jacob Nelson and Nate Macri. Lake Forest quickly answered, tying the game at 1-1 just under six minutes later. However, LW Red regained the lead when Alex Macri scored what turned out to be the game-winning goal with 46 seconds left in the second period, thanks to another assist from Jacob Nelson. Matthew Plahm added an insurance goal in the third period with assistance from Cole Swartzbacker, securing a 3-1 win. Goalie Alex Welsh was solid between the pipes, recording 15 saves.
In the second game of the day, LW Red faced a tougher challenge against New Trier. Despite a valiant effort, Red fell 5-4. The scoring for LW Red came from Ben Cygan, Jacob Cleghorn, Brandon Plahm, and Alex Difiore. Contributions were also made by Alex Macri, Maverick Enright, Ben Ersfeldt, and Ben Irwin, who each added an assist. Goalie Chris Greene had a busy day, making 27 saves.
Despite the setback against New Trier, LW Red’s earlier victory ensured their advancement to the semi-finals. They will face top-seeded Loyola tomorrow morning at 8:00 AM. A win would propel them into the championship game later in the evening at 5:00 PM. The team is poised and ready to make a strong push for the title as they continue their Kings Kup journey.
