Thrilling Overtime Battle Sees LW JV1 Fall to Maine JV1 in Semi-Final Showdown

In an electrifying start to the Illinois West JV semi-finals, LW JV1 faced off against Maine JV1 earlier tonight, ultimately falling in a closely contested overtime battle. 

After a scoreless first period, LW took the lead at 11:01 in the second period, thanks to a skillful goal by Joey Smuskiewicz, who was supported by teammates Grant Briscoe and Gavin Vasquez. 

However, the momentum shifted in the third period. Maine equalized at 12:54, leaving both teams tied as regulation time came to a close. With the stakes high and the atmosphere charged, the game moved into a thrilling 3-on-3 overtime format where every play counted.

Despite a valiant effort from LW, Maine found the back of the net at 4:51 in the overtime period, securing a hard-fought victory. The defeat marks a challenging setback for LW, who showcased talent and grit throughout the game.

Looking ahead, the team is determined to bounce back as they prepare for game two of the semi-finals next Saturday, where they will travel to Niles.
